Rebidding Summary

When we open and partner responds in a major, our rebid will tell partner more about our strength and distribution.

Raise Partner’s Major
(with 4+ support)
Rebid No Trumps Rebid New Suit
(5/4 rule)
Rebid Own Suit
(5+ cards in suit)
With 12-15 pts, bid the major at the lowest level.

Example
1 - 1 - 2

With 15-17 pts rebid No Trumps at the lowest level.

Examples
1 - 1 - 1NT
1♠ - 2♣ - 2NT

With 12-17 pts, rebid a new suit at the lowest level.

1♠ - 2♣ - 2

With 12-15 pts rebid your suit at the lowest level.

1 - 1♠ - 2
1♠ - 2♣ - 2♠

With 16-17 pts, jump a level.

Example
1- 1♠- 3♠

With 18-19 pts, jump in No Trumps.

1 - 1 - 2NT
1♠ - 2♣ - 3NT

With 18-19 pts, jump in a new suit.

Remember when you bid a new suit, you promise at least 5 cards in the 1st suit and at least 4 cards in the 2nd suit.

With 16-17 pts and a 6 card suit, jump in your suit.

With 18-19 pts, jump to game.

Example
1♣ - 1♠ - 4♠

    With 18-19 pts and a good 6 card suit, bid game.

Example
1 - 2 - 4

Special Case
after 1♠ - 2(promising 5H, 10+ pts)
With 12-14 bid 3H
With 15+ bid 4H
(You only need 3 card support in each case).
     

Your first priority is to raise your partner’s major. Second choice is to either bid No Trumps if balanced or a new suit if unbalanced (at least 5 cards in 1st suit, at least 4 cards in 2nd suit). Your last choice is to rebid your own suit.
